YOGA
Yoga is both a spiritual practice as well as a physical discipline. The physical forms of yoga or asana practice increase your flexibility, strength and range of motion. This results in a lightness and ease of movement, increasing your endurance and preventing injury.
As a spiritual discipline, the purpose of asana practice is to unify body and mind. This requires surrendering our compulsion to aggressively push or control our bodies and our lives; in turn, developing patience and compassion toward ourselves as well as the world in which we live.
“The goal of asana (yoga) practice is to live in your body and to learn to perceive clearly through it.”
“As a well cut diamond has many facets, each reflecting a different colour of light, so does [yoga], each facet reflecting a different shade of meaning and revealing different aspects of the entire range of human endeavour to win inner peace and happiness.”
