Carrie Abresch: Bio Carrie Abresch is a somatics specialist and Biodynamic Craniosacral Therapist. She has worked in the United States and Canada teaching workshops, group classes and private sessions in a variety of venues including Gampo Abby, The Heartwood Institute, and Shambhala Mountain Center where she was Director of Healing Arts. Carrie has operated a successful private bodywork practice since 1994 in San Francisco, Colorado, Winnipeg and Vancouver. As a trained contemporary dancer and yoga practitioner, Carrie accesses body awareness and somatic energetics from her in-depth exploration of dynamic movement and performance principles. Carrie began her training in somatics at The Naropa Institute where she obtained her B.A. in Movement Studies. She worked as a professional contemporary dancer in San Francisco during which time she continued her somatic studies. In 1999, Carrie completed her certification in the Pilates Method of core conditioning through the Physical Mind Institute. She also trained in several forms of bodywork including Polarity Energy Balancing, Neuromuscular Therapy, and Craniosacral Therapy. Currently, Carrie is a close student of master Biodynamic Craniosacral Therapist, Howard Jones. Additionally she studies with Helen Walkley, contemporary dancer and senior Laban Movement Analyst, in the principals of Laban Movement Analysis and Bartenieff Fundamentals. Parallel to her somatic and craniosacral practice, Carrie began a life-long path of meditation and dharma studies. She has participated in dozens of weekend meditation programs as well as numerous group retreats. In 2000, she attended a three-month, Vajrayana Buddhist Seminary in the Shambhala Buddhist Lineage of Tibetan teachings. She is an internationally trained Meditation Instructor and Assistant Director of Shambhala Training. From 2003 thru 2004, Carrie held the position of Director of Buddhist Studies at the Vancouver Shambhala Center. Ever inspired by the process of inquiry, Carrie continually resources the wisdom of Body-Mind Centering and Tibetan Buddhist teachings, applying the practice of mindfulness awareness to her somatic movement education and Craniosacral Therapy practice. |
